Located on Caswell Beach, the Oak Island Lighthouse was completed in 1958 as the last lighthouse in North Carolina and as one of the last in the United States. Its purpose was to aid the neighboring Bald Head Lighthouse in directing sailors along the Atlantic shore and Cape Fear River. Though it is no longer in operation, the lighthouse is located beside the Oak Island Coast Guard Station and is a must-see for visitors longing for some rich NC history!
